Community Service
We provide our services on a weekly basis Wednesday through Sunday, providing
cleanups and proper disposal of over an average of 110 tons per year, and have seen
totals as high as 160 tons, as well as recycled items such as tires, metal, wood etc., and
appliances/campers/ boats/trailers, 5 days per week.
We offer 8 hour days for volunteers to serve their community service hours giving
back to the communities we serve. Folks with community service really like the chance to
get large amounts ofservice done because few other non-profits complete 8 hour shifts daily.
The organization provides all necessary tools and supplies. Collective lunch breaks are
provided, either on a brown bag basis or at affordable local dining establishments. This
system has worked well for us and for the volunteers throughout our existence, and we
propose no changes.
We break only for major holidays. Our work on weekends presents a major opportunity
for individuals owing community service requirements, as those individuals usually have
jobs during the week and therefore have no other time when they can work off their hours.
Another unique feature of our work program is that we work year round, rain or shine, which
many other outdoor volunteer organizations do not.
One of the organization’s first volunteers outside the court-sponsored community
service program, who later became a Board member, was attracted to the organization
for precisely this reason. We are always there for individuals who need or want to work
with us, and we keep the environment clean year round.
